Hi, I'm Mikyla

I’m a communications professional and storyteller who believes the best communication is clear, thoughtful, and human. My background is a little unconventional. I began my career in journalism, where I learned how to ask good questions, find the heart of a story, and communicate with and for different audiences. I then spent four years in education, where my work expanded far beyond the classroom. I developed district-wide curriculum, led stakeholder communications, coordinated large-scale events, managed fundraising initiatives, and worked closely with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.

Those experiences taught me that communication is really about people. Whether I’m developing a campaign, shaping a brand voice, writing a story, or translating complex information into something more accessible, I care about making sure the message feels intentional and the people on the other side of it feel considered. I’m currently pursuing my M.A. in Corporate and Nonprofit Communication at Johns Hopkins University, where I’ve been able to build on my professional experience through hands-on work in strategic communication, branding, digital media, social media, research, and audience engagement.

I’m now bringing together my background in journalism, education, and communications as I build a career focused on meaningful storytelling, strategic communication, and work that makes an impact.

When I’m not writing or working on a communication strategy, you’ll probably find me listening to music, watching sports, or looking for my next coffee shop.
